Great Product! As a wedding consultant/coordinator, I knew I needed to be able to communicate with my staff to make the event run smoother and in case of emergencies no matter where we were doing the ceremony/reception. After looking at many similar products I decided to take a chance on Midland and the surveillance earplugs. I must say it is great! My friend has a similar product, but hers does not measure to the radius and clarity of mines. Great investment! Excellent Choice! We actually ordered these for our son's 7th birthday. We wanted something sturdy and durable, not some flimsy kid version. These certainly fit the bill - we have not had any issues with anything breaking (and he's a typical boy) and the range has worked well for us (a mile or so). We have not taken them any further, but for our purposes they work great! I love the rechargeable batteries (again, typical boy)and the holder - we just keep them in the recharger when they're not being used! Great Radios - Good Range First of all, you will never get 20 miles with these or any other consumer radios - maybe on the moon surface you might get 19 miles... º We used these radios to communicate between houses in our last vacation to South America. The houses were a little less than 1 mile apart (about 1000 meters), and we didn¡¦t have telephones, so these things were a great solution. This is a small town so there were no buildings bigger than a 3 story house in between, but this still a fairly populated area. The signal was very good inside the house and clear from the front door. My uncle took the other radio and was making calls within seconds with zero training. I tested the range and after 1 mile you hear a fair amount of static but still understandable, at 1.5 miles a lot of static and understand 75% of conversation at best ¡V lots of houses in between. Battery life was very good. We forgot the charger and we were able to use the radios for 3 days ¡V turning them off at night and using only as necessary. We eventually got the charger just in time (fyi). My uncle liked these radios so much he wanted to buy them from me before we left. I left them as a gift so they are still in South America and I am buying a new pair.
