For the money; they're solid Don't think you'll get advertised range out of any radio; that's under "perfect conditions" and "line of sight" (ie: over open water) We use these for hiking trips and "getting lost in the mall" and they work well; we had some 10 mile units and these definately "punch thru" much better. Good Reception, not a 30 miles in urban area Hi. I have purchase d the product two weeks ago and it seems to have pretty good reception range. I've tested the range with my friend which live on a mountain aprox 10 KM away and we have a line of site. It had a good and clear reception. In urban area with lot of buildings around it was dramatically reduced to 1 KM. It is enough for my purposes. Excellent walkie talkies I purchased these to use for my wedding videography business. I also purchased the clear "spy" ear piece so that we could hear each other during the reception. These work great and they work at long distances too. Don't get caught up in the "28 mile" or "35 mile" thing, that is simply if you are on water or in a flat desert. I was able to walk several blocks away from my partner in downtown Louisville, Ky and they worked great. Battery lasts for a long time also, just don't forget to turn them off when your done and charge them before you need them the next time :).
